| Taiwan’s machine tool industry is the country’s most important industry by value. Since Taiwan is the world’s fifth largest producer of machine tools, and nearly 75% of its machine tool output is exported, Taiwan plays an influential role in the international machine-tool market. Taiwan’s machine tool output reached US$4.8 billion in 2008, and grew at a rate of 11.3%. After 2004, Taiwan surpassed South Korea to become the world’s fifth-largest machine tool exporting country, following Japan, Germany, China, and Italy. |
