Winner Selection
Criteria
The Taiwan Excellence Awards Selection, formerly known as the Symbol of Excellence Awards Selection, was set up in 1992 to encourage Taiwan industries to upgrade and incorporate innovalue into their products.
The Taiwan Excellence Awards Selection is based on four different criteria: R&D, Design, Quality, and Marketing. A panel of experts selects over 300 winners according to the four given criteria. Each product must score well in each category. Weakness in any of the four criteria will result in automatic disqualification.
The Taiwan Excellence Award winning products are designated with the red interwoven arc symbol of Taiwan Excellence, which is the mark of product distinction and superior quality.
Selection Process
The award selection basically goes through three different stages: applicant qualification, paper investigation, and product assessment. Judges for the first selection, which comprise local experts representing various fields, initially score the products based on their individual criteria, then submit their scores for group discussion. From these selected products, the judges choose an elite group of up to 30 products to compete for the Taiwan Excellence Gold & Silver Awards.
Obtaining the Taiwan Excellence Award is a prerequisite for joining the final selection, in which up to 30 products can qualify for the gold and silver awards. Up to only eight winners can receive the Taiwan Excellence gold award, while the rest receive the silver award.
Final Selection Judges
The panel for the Taiwan Excellence Gold Awards comprises nine experts. Two judges (local and foreign) preside over each category. Entrants initially fill out a form in English, after which the form is mailed in advance to the judges overseas. These judges are invited to Taiwan to give their product assessment as well as make their final choice on the products they’ve assessed.
This rigorous selection process ensures that the Taiwan Excellence Gold Awards will remain the highest honor any Taiwan product can receive.
